The Kidd blood group system was discovered in 1951 by Allen, Diamond and Niedzeila [1]. An antibody, anti-Jk^a, reacted with the blood of about 77 per cent of white Bostonians and the corresponding antigen, Jka, was shown to be inherited by means of a gene Jk^acapable of expressing itself in single or expected antithetical antibody, anti-Jkb, was found [5]. So far only a few hundred samples of blood have been reported which have been tested with both anti-Jk^a and anti-Jk^b: the results suggest that only two alleles, Jk^a and JK^b, are present in Europeans and, probably, in negroes.
