Der Barrett-Ösophagus ist und bleibt eine verwirrende Herausforderung, da man sich noch immer nicht über die genaue Bedeutung der zugrunde liegenden Faktoren im Klaren ist. Neben der bekannten Interobserver-Variation in der Neoplasie-Diagnostik bei Barrett-Ösophagus ist die ansteigende Zahl an Diskrepanzen zwischen bioptischen Diagnosen und Befunden, die am OP-Präparat oder endoskopischen Resektat gestellt wurden, ein relativ neues Phänomen. Die histologische Diagnose ist jedoch weiterhin vor und nach interventionellen Eingriffen sehr wichtig, um das weitere Therapie-Prozedere entsprechend auszurichten und abzustimmen.
