Im Überblick werden angloamerikanische Untersuchungen zur Beeinflussung von Informationsverarbeitungsstörungen Schizophrener dargestellt. Verstärkte Forschungsbemühungen in diesem Feld setzten erst Anfang der 90er Jahre ein, so daβ insgesamt erst eine relativ geringe Zahl von Studien vorliegt. Es finden sich Hinweise, daβ sowohl elementare wie komplexe Störungen der Informationsverarbeitung bei Schizophrenen positiv zu verändern sind und Verbesserungen kognitiver Leistungen auf einer niederen Stufe der Informationsverarbeitung zu Verbesserungen auf höheren Stufen führen können. Zudem scheint der Erfolg eines Trainings sozialer Fertigkeiten von verbalen Arbeitsgedächtnis- und Aufmerksamkeitsleistungen prädiktiert. Empfehlungen angloamerikanischer Autoren für die Konstruktion kognitiv orientierter Trainingsverfahren wie erste konkrete Trainingsansätze werden vorgestellt. Abschlieβend erfolgt die Diskussion der Befunde hinsichtlich der zukünftigen Praxis und Forschung auf dem Gebiet der kognitiven Therapie bei schizophren Erkrankten.
