Reliability of the German Version of the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale Background: The Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale [Y-BOCS; Goodman et al., 1989] is commonly regarded as the gold standard to assess the severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The psychometric properties of the English version have been described as excellent. Yet, the reliability of the German version [Hand and Büttner-Westphal, 1991] has long not been independently assessed. Aim of the present study was to fill this gap. Patients and Methods: 22 patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder were examined using the Y-BOCS. Results: Itemwise, interrater reliability ranged from r = 0.74 to r = 0.97. The correlation between the raters on the total score was r = 0.90, internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) was 0.80. Discussion: Results demonstrate a good reliability of the German version of the Y-BOCS.
