Es wurde eine Methode zur Bestimmung des männlichen Keimdrüsenhormons im Plasma dargestellt, die zur Gruppe der « Competitive-Protein – Bindung – Methods» gehört und die sensitiv und genau ist. Die Empfindlichkeitsgrenze der Methode liegt bei 0,1 ng (1 ng = 10––9 g). Es wurden mit der Methode Testosteronbestimmungen im Plasma bei 21 jungen, normalen Männern ausgeführt (Mittelwert: 0,74 ± 0,29 (SD) µg/l00 ml Plasma) und bei 68 Männern über 60 Jahre (Mittelwert 0,43 ± 0,25 (SD) µg/l00 ml Plasma. Ausserdem wurde der Plasmatestosteronspiegel bei 17 Männern über 60 Jahre vor und 24 h nach Verabreichung von 5000 E Gonadotropin bestimmt, bei weiteren 13 Patienten über 60 Jahre wurde die Hodenmorphologie mit dem jeweiligen Plasmatestosterongehalt verglichen.
