Die Autoimmunthrombozytopenie (AITP) ist eine Autoimmunerkrankung, die durch eine Zerstörung von antikörperbeladenen Thrombozyten im retikuloendothelialen System charakterisiert ist. Die AITP ist eine häufige hämatologische Erkrankung. Sie ist eine Ausschluβiagnose. Abhängig von der klinischen Manifestation werden eine akute und eine chronische Form unterschieden. Nach differentialdiagnostischen Überlegungen werden die verschiedenen therapeutischen Möglichkeiten bei der AITP diskutiert. Nach Versagen einer medikamentösen Behandlung mit Glukokortikoiden oder Immunglobulinen und nach nicht erfolgreicher Splenektomie können andere, zum Teil experimentelle Therapiemodalitäten angewendet werden, die ebenfalls besprochen werden.
