Es werden die verschiedenen in der Universitätskinderkünik Zürich verwendeten Infusionstechniken beschrieben. Die unbestrittenen Vor-teile bei der Anwendung von zentralen Venenkathetern werden auch bei optimaler Technik mit einigen Gefahren erkauft, wobei die Infektionsgefahr die wichtigste ist. Zentrale Venenkatheter sollen deshalb nur dann und so lange angewendet werden, wie da-für eine eindeutige Indikation besteht. Die wichtigsten Indikationen in der Pädiatrie und in der Kinderchirurgie sind gewisse Fälle von pr-ä und postoperativer Iniusionsbehandlung, die Schock-behandlung sowie die langdauernde parenterale Ernährung, welche ohne zentrale Venenkatheter unmöglich wäre. Die wirksamsten Maβnahmen zum Verhüten von Katheterinfektionen sind die aseptische Operationstechnik beim Anlegen des Katheters sowie die mög-lichst frühzeitige Entfernung desselben.
