Abstract
Psychopathology, then entitled Monatsschrift für Psychiatrie und Neurologie, was among the first half a dozen journals to be published by Karger Publishers after its foundation towards the end of the last century. In 1890, my grandfather Samuel Karger founded the publishing house of Karger in Berlin. Many journals have since been added, but Psychopathology has always had a special place in our publishing program. One must recognize that at that time the two disciplines psychiatry and neurology were closely knit, making it obvious that the journal was launched to address both psychiatrists and neurologists. This close link was maintained longer in the German-speaking countries, only following the general trend to separation made by the English-speaking countries in the 1960s. This process reflects the separation of the journal into European Neurology and Psychiatria Clinica; the latter was renamed in 1984 and since published as Psychopathology.
