Multi-scale Quantitative Approaches to Decode Cellular, Developmental and Cancer Dynamics

Experimental and computational approaches towards exploring spatiotemporal dynamics of biological systems.

This collection focuses on experimental and/or computational approaches aimed at understanding spatiotemporal dynamics observed in diverse biological processes, at intracellular, cellular and tissue-scales. The articles collated here showcase quantitative approaches to collect, analyze and interpret real-time high-throughput data in biological systems at multiple length and time scales, moving towards a predictive understanding of diverse physiological and pathological situations. They apply different biophysical, computational modeling and statistical tools to address questions related to, but not limited to, understanding

  • How cells come together to form tissues, organs and organisms (cell-fate decisions, impact of cell-cell communication, collective cell behavior etc.)
  • How tissue integrity is maintained during homeostasis (methods to elucidate principles of self-organization of tissues in vitro and in vivo, stem cell differentiation, cell-matrix and cell-cell interactions in enabling tissue integrity etc.)
  • How developmental/homeostatic scenarios are dysregulated in diseases such as cancer (perturbed cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, mechanisms leading to compromised tissue integrity etc.)
