Für die Entstehung fehlerhafter /s/-Lautbildungen werden viele Ursachen als mitwirkende Faktoren verantwortlich gemacht. In dieser Arbeit sollen Zusammenhänge zwischen morphologischen Veränderungen einerseits und Sigmatismen andererseits aus der Literatur aufgegriffen und einander gegenübergestellt werden. Zunächst werden die Theorien zu den Bildungsmechanismen der normalen und pathologischen /s/-Laute und deren akustische Phänomene dargestellt. Die morphologischen Veränderungen werden unterschieden in Defekte und Deformationen des Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferapparates. Der Einfluss von zahnärztlichen Fremdkörpern auf die /s/-Lautbildung wird im zweiten Teil dieser Arbeit diskutiert.
