Paragangliome im Kopf-Hals Bereich werden zu den neuroendokrinen Tumoren gezÄhlt. Allen neuroendokrinen Geweben sind elektronenoptisch darstellbare Speichergranula im Zytoplasma der Zellen gemeinsam. Bei der Operation entnommenes Gewebe von 10 Paragangliompatienten (4 Glomus caroticum, 3 Glomus jugulare, 3 Glomus tympanicum) wurde fÜr die Elektronenmikroskopie aufgearbeitet. Die Ultrastruktur der untersuchten Paragangliome war trotz unterschiedlicher Lokalisation einheitlich. Es liessen sich Typ-I- und Typ-II-Zellen differenzieren. Beide Zelltypen waren reich an Mitochondrien mit unterschiedlich elektronendichtem Zytoplasma. Das endoplasmatische Retikulum war prominent und wies teilweise konzentrisch geschichtete Strukturen auf. Die intrazytoplasmatischen Speichergranula zeigten zwei GrÖssen, ohne Übergangsformen, mit einer HÜllmembran. Da Speichergranula elektronenoptisch auch in stark nekrotischem oder schlecht fixiertem Gewebe nachweisbar sind, ist die Elektronenmikroskopie zur Differentialdiagnose bei stark alteriertem Gewebe hilfreich.
