Für die Entwicklung eines allogenen Ersatzes für die menschliche Trachea wurden verschiedene Kunststoffe in vitro in Mukosazellkulturen getestet. Durch Trypsinierung vereinzelte menschliche Flimmerzellen wurden auf solidem Polytetrafluorethylen, Silikonfolie, Polyglactin 910 (Vicrylfilz) und Polydioxanon (PDS-Folie) kultiviert und hinsichtlich Adhäsion, Ausbreitung und Differenzierungsverhalten rasterelektronenmikroskopisch untersucht. Den Ergebnissen zufolge beeinflussen sowohl die chemische als auch die räumliche Struktur des Kunststoffs die Ausbildung differenzierter Schleimhautzellpolylayer. Solides Polytetrafluorethylen und Silikonfolie scheinen als Träger für Schleimhautzellen besser geeignet zu sein als Vicrylfilz oder PDS-Folie.
