Near-final scotopic thresholds of dominant eyes of amblyopic subjects and age-matched persons with bilaterally normal vision were compared in three substudies. As a group, dominant eyes were found to have higher thresholds than normal eyes after 24.5 min of dark adaptation. Larger threshold differences are associated with more intense preadaptation. These results may mean that the adaptive process is more drawn out in dominant eyes or is more susceptible to light adaptation by a test stimulus. This study provides evidence of aberrant functioning of dominant eyes.
