Die in der Literatur mitgeteilte nicht-hämatologische Toxizität bei hochdosierter Cytarabin-Therapie betraí in erster Linie ZNS (zerebellare Störungen), Augen (Keratitis und Konjunktivitis), Haut (Erythem) und Verdauungstrakt (Erbrechen, Diarrhoen). Sie ist teils von der Dosis, teils von der Behandlungsdauer abhängig. Eine Dosis von 48 g/m2 für einen Zyklus stellt offensichtlich eine kritische Obergrenze dar, da von hier ab insbesondere die Geíahr einer irreversiblen Hirnschädigung wächst. Berücksichtigt man die Tatsache, daß die Indikation íür hochdosiertes Cytarabin vor allem die prognostisch ungünstigen Primärversager und Rezidive bei akuten Leukämien betraf, so scheint die Toxizität akzeptabel zu sein.
