After steering the Journal of Vascular Research for the last 17 years, Prof. Ulrich Pohl, Munich, Germany, has passed his role as Editor-in-Chief to Prof. Brant E. Isakson, Charlottesville, VA, USA.

Prof. Pohl is a renowned scientist and researcher. Until his retirement, he acted as Professor and Chair of Vegetative Physiology at the Institute of Cardiovascular Physiology and Pathophysiology and as Director of the Walter Brendel Centre for Experimental Medicine at Munich University LMU.

During Prof. Pohl’s tenure as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Vascular Research, which began in 2002, it was not least thanks to his accessible nature, his general open-mindedness, and his interest in all aspects of scientific publishing that the journal turned into a kind of a laboratory within our publishing house. The Journal of Vascular Research was one of our first journals to work with an online submission and peer review system as well as one of the first ones to offer the option of uploading online supplementary material. Also, Prof. Pohl was a driving force behind our decision to publish all articles online first with regard to the printed issue – just to name three examples of practices that have been international standard for quite some time now.

We at Karger Publishers thank Prof. Pohl for all his efforts and his valuable inputs over the years and are deeply indebted to his dedicated service to the journal.

As his successor, we are delighted to welcome Prof. Brant E. Isakson, who became the new Editor-in-Chief on March 1, 2020. He is no stranger to the Journal of Vascular Research, having been on the Editorial Board since 2017 and acting as an Associate Editor. We look forward to working with him and to helping him implement his ideas and initiatives for the journal as it enters its next chapter.
