Abstract
The thorax acts as a protector of the heart, great vessels and lungs against mechanical trauma such as might be encountered in an automobile accident. Various primates have been used as a model to determine the response of man to thoracic impact. The present study shows the effects of embalming on thoracic stiffness and the relative differences in chest stiffness in squirrel and rhesus monkeys, baboons and chimpanzees.
