The creation of the current issue is due in large part to the meticulous and tireless efforts of my co-editors, Drs. Alan Rogol and Walter Miller. They helped, along with all the contributors, to fulfill my vision as President of PES during the 50th anniversary of its founding to leave a “living legacy” of the half century of the (LW)PES. Their encouragement and support in the creation of this collection of manuscripts describing the history of major disorders we evaluate and treat in pediatric endocrinology and diabetes are gratefully acknowledged. As stated in the preface, “lessons from the past may not always prevent errors or future mistakes,” but we hope that the reports in this issue will highlight some possibly forgotten milestones of the past.
