The article entitled “Carbetocin versus Oxytocin with or without Tranexamic Acid for Prophylactic Prevention of Postpartum Hemorrhage after a Vaginal Delivery: A Randomized Clinical Trial” [Gynecol Obstet Invest. 2023;88(6):366–74; DOI: 10.1159/000534375] by Caglar Cetin, Fatma Basak Tanoglu, Erhan Hanligil, Ali Gokce, Ozge Pasin and Pinar Ozcan has been retracted by the Publisher and Editor.
After publication of this article, concerns were raised about the difference between groups in variables not expected to be impacted by the intervention. Specifically, group differences are reported in the birth weight, number of tears, gestational age and Apgar 1 and 5 min scores. When asked to comment on this the corresponding author stated that the differences between the groups reported in the article were a correct presentation of the data collected. They stated that the difference between groups was not due to differences in the proportion of birth weights above the 90th or 95th percentiles nor differences in the rate of Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) admission.
A post-publication review of the article and the original data concluded that the differences between groups undermined the reliability of the article’s conclusions and, as a result, the article is being retracted.
The corresponding author, on behalf of all authors, stated a preference to discuss the above concerns through an exchange of published correspondence in the journal and, on behalf of all authors, disagreed with the retraction.
