The Publisher and Editor are issuing an Expression of Concern on the article titled “Low Dose of Ethinyl Estradiol Can Reverse the Antiestrogenic Effects of Clomiphene Citrate on Endometrium” [Gynecol Obstet Invest. 2001;51(2):120–3; DOI: 10.1159/000052906] by Vittorio Unfer, Loredana Costabile, Sandro Gerli, Enrico Papaleo, Guido Marelli and Gian Carlo Di Renzo.
After publication of this article, concerns were raised about similarities between the results presented in Figure 1 and Figure 2 in this article and the results in a previously published article by the authors [1]. When asked to comment on the similarities, the corresponding author stated that the studies described in the two papers featured separate patient cohorts. Regarding the similarity of the histogram in Figure 1 in this article and that in Figure 2 in their previous article [1], the corresponding author stated that due to local data storage regulations at the time of publication, the authors no longer have access to the raw data or the medical records of the patients to ascertain whether any similarities are coincidental or otherwise. As the matter cannot be conclusively resolved, this Expression of Concern is being issued to make readers aware of the similarities between the results in Figure 1 in this article and Figure 2 in [1].
