Im Projekt «Qualitätssicherung in der operativen Gynäkologie» wurde eine externe Massnahme zur Unterstützung der operativ-gynäkologischen Qualitätssicherung entwickelt und im Jahr 1994 an 44 Kliniken erprobt. Der externe Kliniksvergleich erbrachte im allgemeinen eine hohe Qualität der Versorgung, jedoch bei einzelnen Versorgungsaspekten eine ausserordentlich hohe Variabilität. Letzteres zeigte sich z.B. bei der Thromboseprophylaxe und den Operationszugängen für definierte Eingriffe. Positive Auswirkungen des Projekts liegen zum einen darin, dass die Kliniken die Vergleichsdaten als Ausgangspunkt für Veränderungen der Versorgungsprozesse nutzten und so Qualitätsverbesserungen erzielten. Zum anderen dienten die externen Vergleiche dazu, den Bedarf an Leitlinien zur Versorgung aufzudecken. Solche Leitlinien müssen nun von der gynäkologischen Fachgesellschaft entwickelt und in geeigneter Weise ihren Mitgliedern vermittelt werden.
