Abstract
Die Tradition der österreichischen vaginal-operativen Schule begann im Jahre 1878 und hat sich bis in unsere Tage erhalten; auch heute werden in Österreich noch etwa zwei Drittel aller Hysterektomien auf vaginalem Wege ausgeführt. Der forcierte Einsatz alternativer Therapieverfahren hat in den letzten Jahren das operative Spektrum vor allem in bezug auf die Hysterektomiefrequenz verändert, trotzdem gibt es nach wie vor eine Reihe von Indikationen. Gerade das aktuelle Bestreben, möglichst patientinnenorientiert vorzugehen, hat zu einer Renaissance der vaginal-operativen Techniken geführt, und es sollte uns Verpflichtung sein, diese Operationsmethoden jenen Ländern zu vermitteln, in denen keine solche Tradition besteht.
