Für die Einteilung der malignen Trophoblasterkrankungen wurden in den letzten Jahren vor allem drei Einteilungssysteme benutzt: das WHO-Scoringsystem, die NIH-Klassifikation und die FIGO-Einteilung. In den USA hat sich die NIH-Klassifikation durchgesetzt und wird zur Zeit mehrheitlich verwendet. Die Stadieneinteilung nach FIGO hat 1992 geändert und beinhaltet neu nicht nur anatomische Ausbreitungen, sondern auch prognostisch wichtige Faktoren. Die einzelnen Einteilungen werden dargestellt und diskutiert.
