Les auteurs ont étudié l’utilisation des structures syntaxiques, des groupes syntagmatiques et des mots lexicaux dans les récits de 4e primaire recueillis dans 7 langues différentes de la CEE: allemand, anglais, castillan, Catalan, français, italien et portugais. Pour ce faire, ils ont analyse dans chaque langue les productions orales et écrites de 60 enfants constituant 2 classes ou 2 classes 1/2 selon le pays concerné. Pour l’ensemble la «situation de langage» est en moyenne du même ordre, même si certaines differences affectent ou enrichissent une langue plus particulièrement qu’une autre. Cette etude permet de situer à quel niveau se placent les enfants par rapport à leur langue et à leur classe et d’en déduire queues seront leurs possibilités par rapport à une autre langue en cas de nécessité. La poursuite des comparaisons à d’autres niveaux facilitera la mise en correspondance des langues dans l’Europe de demain.
