Summary. The activity of deoxycytidine aminohydrolase in liver of man and several mammalian species was studied. An exceedingly high level of this enzyme was found in the liver tissue of man. This fact elucidates the extraordinary low level of deoxycytidine excreted under normal conditions by urine of man, as compared with deoxycytidinuria of several kinds of mammals. In the following kinds of mammals the significantly high enzyme activity was shown in golden hamster and calf. The organ distribution of the enzyme was estimated in these two kinds of animals. The highest activities were found in the liver and kidney as in the thymus and testes a very low enzyme activity was found. A preliminary characteristic of deoxycytidine aminohydrolase in liver tissue of golden hamster was studied.
