The effect of some drugs involved in the metabolism of catecholamines was studied in rats with gastric ulcers induced by reserpine or phenylbutazone. Significant reduction in gastric lesion incidence was obtained by L-dopa, norepinephrine and amantadine only in animals treated with reserpine; these drugs were ineffective against ulcers produced by phenylbutazone. The significance of these results is discussed in connection with the hypothesis on the role of the catecholamines in the pathogenesis of gastric ulcers caused by reserpine in the rat
