On July 6, Teresa Capriglione, a well-known and distinguished Italian evolutionary cytogeneticist, passed away after a long battle with a painful disease. Teresa Capriglione was a Professor of Comparative Anatomy at the University of Naples “Federico II” and one of the best researchers in the field of evolutionary cytogenetics and genomics of vertebrates. She published more than 100 excellent papers. Among her most notable contribution was the role of satellite DNA on the differentiation and evolution of sex chromosomes in various vertebrate classes, especially cartilaginous fishes, Antarctic fishes and reptiles. The untimely death of Teresa Capriglione is a great loss for the international community and the field of genomics and evolutionary biology.
