Die Viszeralchirurgen, vor allem die universitären Vertreter, reklamieren schon seit längerer Zeit die Endoskopie für sich [1]. Sie nehmen für sich in Anspruch, schon sehr früh an der Entwicklung und Etablierung dieser Verfahren beteiligt gewesen zu sein. Mit der explosionsartigen Verbreitung der minimal-invasiven Techniken (Schlüsselloch- Chirurgie) durch laparoskopischen Zugang (H. Kalk erfährt späte Genugtuung) hat sich diese Sicht sehr verschärft. Die Gastroenterologen andererseits können guten Gewissens feststellen, dass nahezu die gesamte fiberoptische und später die Video- Chip-Technik mit allen Zusatzverfahren in wesentlichen Bereichen diagnostisch wie auch therapeutisch von Gastroenterologen entwickelt worden ist [2].
