Retraction Statement

The article “Fisetin Protects against Intracerebral Hemorrhage-Induced Neuroinflammation in Aged Mice” [Cerebrovasc Dis. 14 May 2018;45(3–4):154–161. https://doi.org/10.1159/000488117] by Cheng Chen, Li Yao, Jing Cui, and Bao Liu has been retracted by the Publisher and the Editor.

After the publication of this article, concerns were raised about the integrity of some of the data presented. Specifically, image duplication was found between Figure 2a (in the images representing “DAPI SHAM,” “DAPI Vehicle,” “DAPI 10 mg/kg,” and “DAPI 30 mg/kg”) and Figure 2A of a previously published article by different authors (specifically in the images representing “DAPI 0h,” “DAPI 24h,” and “DAPI 12h,” respectively) [1]. Some of the duplications mentioned included a horizontal flip.

In addition, image duplication was found between Figure 2a (in the images representing “TUNEL Sham,” “TUNEL Vehicle,” “TUNEL 10 mg/kg,” “TUNEL 30 mg/kg,” “TUNEL 60 mg/kg,” and “TUNEL 90 mg/kg”) and Figure 2A as mentioned above of a previously published article by different authors (in the images representing “TUNEL 0h,” “TUNEL 24h,” “TUNEL 12h,” “TUNEL 6h,” “TUNEL 4h,” and “TUNEL 2h,” respectively”) [1]. Some of the duplications mentioned included a horizontal flip or apparent removal of cells (TUNEL Sham in this article and TUNEL 0h in [1]).

In addition, the duplicated image in Figure 2a representing “DAPI 10 mg/kg” appears twice in the article, representing both “DAPI 10 mg/kg” and “DAPI 30 mg/kg”.

When asked to comment on the above concerns, the corresponding author stated that images from previous works were used as reference images and were not deleted during the final editing process. The authors requested to replace the erroneously included images. The concerns and the authors’ response were evaluated by the Editorial team and, given the observed image adjustment between the duplicated images and the inability to provide the original data, the response was found to be unsatisfactory. As the concerns about the images have not been adequately addressed, the article has been retracted.

The authors have not responded to our correspondence regarding this retraction text.
