The article “Effects of Blood Purification on Serum Levels of Inflammatory Cytokines and Cardiac Function in a Rat Model of Sepsis” [Blood Purif. 2017;44(1):40–50; DOI: 10.1159/000455060] by Cong-Meng Lin, Cun-Rong Chen, Xue-Qiong Wu, Jin-Hua Ren, Shao-Zhen Chen, Xiao-Feng Luo, Xu-Qiao Mei, Lv-Ying Shen, Meng-Xian Guo, Xu-Dong Ma and Ting Yang has been retracted by the Publisher and the Editor.

After the publication of this article, concerns were raised about the integrity of some of the data presented. Specifically, Figure 3B was found to be duplicated with Figure 2A in a previously published article by other authors [1]. Figure 3C in this article is partially duplicated in two panels of Figure 2 in a subsequently published article by other authors [2].

When asked to comment on the concerns, the corresponding author stated that they used a third-party company to take the images of the experiments presented in Figure 3 and stated that they believe that this company then used their images in other articles by different researchers. The corresponding author did not address the concerns raised about Figure 4 in correspondence but requested to replace all images in the figure in an Erratum.

The concerns and the author’s response were reviewed by the Editorial team, and it was concluded that the response does not satisfactorily address the concerns raised. It was concluded that the concerns undermined the reliability of the results of the article and the article should be retracted.

The corresponding author, on behalf of all authors, does not agree with this retraction.
