The introduction of anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) antibodies into the treatment of patients with IBD about fifteen years ago has dramatically improved the quality of life for patients with severe Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. But despite the fact this therapeutic approach has been around for quite some time, there has been no comprehensive overview to date.
