August 1998 nach Florenz eingeladen hatte. Diese 1995 in Zürich beschlossene Themenstellung könnte auch als das Motto des Ortes und seiner langen Geschichte gelten. Parteienhader, Intrigen und Kriege zeichneten und formten ihn genauso wie eine für Jahrhunderte immer wieder in fast unbegreiflicher Fülle aufblühende künstlerische Schaffenskraft, was Florenz, «die Blühende», heute zu einer der grössten Schatzkammern des kulturellen Erbes der Menschheit macht.
