A senior member of the Academy and an active neuroscientist, Dr. C.S. Paulose, passed away at Cochin on March 29, 2016, at the age of 66 years. Professor Paulose obtained his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees as well as Doctorate from Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi. After his PhD, he briefly worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Central University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, and then proceeded to Oakland University, Rochester, Mich., USA, and the McMaster University, Hamilton, Ont., Canada, for further postdoctoral research. He returned to India in 1988 and joined the CUSAT where he served at different positions and rose to the position of Professor. He served as Head of the Department of Biotechnology and also as Director, Directorate of Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy of the CUSAT. On his superannuation, he was appointed as Professor Emeritus by the University.

Dr. Paulose organized the XXVI Annual Conference of Indian Academy of Neuroscience at the CUAST, which many of us attended and cherish sweet memories. He also organized several workshops and training programs in neurosciences. Dr. Paulose's main area of research was neurotransmitter control of cell proliferation and hormonal regulation, CNS regulation and hypertension. He published over 170 papers in peer review journals and supervised PhD degree of several students.

Dr. Paulose was a recipient of the Sir Shriram Memorial Oration Award in 2007-2008, instituted by the National Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Kamla B.K. Anand Oration Award in 2009 by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He was a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), and was elected as member of Academic Council and appointed as Chairman of the CUSAT Board of Studies (2013-2017).

He is survived by wife Dr. Santi Paulose and sons Abey Paulose and Boby Paulose.
