The Publisher and Editor are issuing an Expression of Concern on the article titled “Effect of the Cumin cyminum L. Intake on Weight Loss, Metabolic Profiles and Biomarkers of Oxidative Stress in Overweight Subjects: A Randomized Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial” [Ann Nutr Metab. 2015;66(2–3):117–124, DOI: 10.1159/000373896] by Mohsen Taghizadeh, Mohammad Reza Memarzadeh, Zatollah Asemi, and Ahmad Esmaillzadeh.
Following publication concerns were raised regarding the article by Taghizadeh et al. regarding discrepancies in the group size within the article, discrepancies between the participant demographic data between the article and the trial registration, and date of the start of the trial in the article relative to the date reported in the trial registration.
The concerns have been investigated by the National Committee for Ethics in Biomedical Research at the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education. As our investigation is ongoing, we are issuing an Expression of Concern and readers should thus interpret the data presented in the article with caution. Appropriate editorial action will be taken once the investigation is concluded.
