A case of severe neonatal hemolytic anemia caused by an erythrocytic pyruvate kinase deficiency is described. A comparative analysis of the hematimetric and biochemical data has been made. The purification of the enzyme in the parents and the study of its physicochemical constants excluded abnormal kinetics of pyruvate kinase. The correlation between the severity of the anemia, variations of hematimetric criteria and biochemical properties of the enzyme in patients suffering from mutation of that factor are considered in the light of results obtained and of observations already published.
