It has been my great honor to serve as Editor in Chief of Acta Cytologica for the past 9 years.

As my tenure comes to a close I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the past years as Acta Cytologica celebrates its 57th anniversary. I learned a great deal from my mentor and colleague Dr. George L. Wied, the founder of this journal. Without a doubt, I could not have done my job without his mentorship. I want to thank the past and present Associate Editors, members of the Editorial Board, National and Regional Editors and Ad Hoc Reviewers of Acta Cytologica who have helped me to do my job and introduce measures to increase the impact factor of the journal over the next few years. Thanks go also to the dedicated editorial and production staffs of Karger Publishers and previous Science Publishers, who are indispensable to keep our renowed journal alive and provide our readers with timely information. I would like to express many thanks to all and appreciation for their collaboration and contributions to the success of Acta Cytologica, the official journal of the International Academy of Cytology and affiliated cytology societies around the world.

Now it is time to say goodbye and introduce our new Editor in Chief: Dr. Kari Syrjanen. Welcome Kari, we look forward to your leadership!
